Time To Plant Trees!

It's a great time to visit your local nurseries and pick out shrubs and trees for your landscaping. I have purchased several varieties of japaneze maples that I am going to plant in the back yard next week. I need to find some taller growing trees as well for the front. Twin Bridges on Wade Hampton Blvd has some great prices so check them out.

Battery Box

A few years ago we took a small cardboard box and designated this box to be our used and old batteries recycling bin. We keep it beside the new battery box so it reminds us not to put batteries in the trash. Every six months or so we take the box to a local recycling center so they can be disposed of properly.

I will miss my tree!

Last Thursday's storm took out one of my favorite trees. It was a White Oak that was estimated at 100 years old. I have never seen winds so strong in my 45 years on the planet. I will never forget the sound it made when it hit the roof. The Fire Department condemned the right side of my house until we could get the tree off. It took 2 cranes to lift the weight of the tree after the first crane almost collapsed...LOL...No one was injured including the cat who wedged himself under a chair and wouldn't come out for hours but who can blame him. We are just blessed and fortunate to be here. I have always had a great respect for Mother Nature and this is why. I plan on counting the rings on the stump to determine the exact age of the tree. I will report back when I get a chance.

Blue Bird Found

The other night my wife found a blue bird in the middle of the road in front of our house with a broken wing. She brought it in and we found a shoebox and cut some holes in it to let some air in. This little guy had the most beautiful markings and seemed very grateful for our help. We called a local wildlife rehaber and met her over at Cherrydale at 10:30 at night. She thanked us and said she would do all she could to help save it. At least we did all we could to help and it made us feel good that we took the time to try and help.

I have worked with these wildlife rehab people in the past and they never stop amazing me. Most of them spend their own money to buy food and crates for the animals they save. They will come out in the middle of the night for zero pay to help save an animal, bird or reptile. I have been in their homes that they share with racoons, owls, woodchucks, geese etc... It's hard to believe that the state doesn't reimburse most of them for their troubles and they have to raise money through fundraisers. Anyway, my hats off to all of them! Keep up the good work because you are very much appreciated!

Update On The Geese at Entercom

We have an update on the family of Geese who have chosen Entercom as it's breeding ground again this year. Our associates have been spotted herding the gooslings out of the road and nearby parking lots back to Entercom safety. Some of our associates called Wildlife Rehab of Greenville out of fear for the well beeing of our new feathered friends, due to the curious behavior of the new gooslings to explore Greenridge and Garlington Rd.

Wildlife Rehab of Greenville sent out a representative who rounded up the babies and took them to a rehab location where they will be out of harms way. As soon as they can fly and hunt for food on their own, they will be released back into the wild at a safer location. We will miss our new friends but we feel good that they are out of danger. I'm sure they will let us visit them if we ask.

Entercom Adopts Goose Family

or should I say "Goose Family Adopts Entercom"? Our resident pair of geese have once again claimed a stake at the Upstate Entercom Property on Garlington Rd. This year they chose the oddest place to lay their eggs. There is a chain link fence that seperates our property from the back of Lowes at Greenridge and this is where our feathered friends decided to lay their eggs this year.

There have been a few instances where the male goose has chased a few of our associates across the parking lot - much to our entertainment I might add. For the most part, they are very friendly and are the subject of daily conversations among the staff as we track the progress of nature. I am finally proud to announce the birth or hatching of 5 little yellow fuzzy butts as of yesterday. She is still sitting on one egg that has yet to crack...LOL
